At Panthera, we pride ourselves on setting new standards in the sustainable production of activated carbon.
Panthera maintains full control over our manufacturing process, allowing us to prioritize sustainability at every step starting with the ethical collection of coconut feedstock, to the environmentally responsible charring, and finally the energy efficient activation of coconut charcoal.
OUR APPROACH VS. THE TRADITIONAL NORM
Traditional coconut shell activated carbon producers rarely source raw coconut shells themselves and often face challenges associated with sourcing charcoal from third parties. This leads to a lack of control over the manufacturing process and lack of environmental accountability.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF TYPICAL CHARCOALING TECHNIQUES
Traditional coconut shell charring methods (such as open-pits or oil drums) notoriously emit significant amounts of greenhouse gases like methane and environmentally damaging NOx that causes acid rain. Emissions of these gases contribute to the degradation of our environment.
Panthera recognized the urgent need for change and has revolutionized the coconut shell charring process.
ETHICAL COLLECTION
OF RAW MATERIALS
Many of our coconut shells originate from large-scale coconut oil producers, large-scale farming groups, subsistence farmers, and local villages.
Our collection network spans across thousands of people, and we are proud to have turned a traditionally discarded waste product, the coconut shell, into an income-producing business for families across the Eastern African coast.

Our commitment to sustainability is exemplified through a novel charring technique, which contains pollutants within our specialized carbonisation kiln.
Our process not only eliminates dangerous emissions of NOx but also transforms the energy released from the coconut shells into a reusable energy source that powers our activation kiln.

Panthera's charring technique was engineered with the environment in mind, ensuring all emissions from the charring process are scrubbed free from harmful polluting gases.
By eradicating acidic emissions, we are actively mitigating our environmental impact and working towards a cleaner, healthier planet.

We take our sustainability approach one step further with our innovative approach to energy consumption.
Rather than allowing energy to go to waste, we capture and repurpose it as fuel for our steam activation kiln. This system results in a cleaner and greener production facility, showcasing our dedication to minimizing environmental impact.
